My research focuses on the development of a fundamental, integrated and quantitative multi-scale materials modeling approach to design materials with exceptional properties. Multi-scale models resolve interactions of material structure and mechanisms at electronic (ab-initio), atomistic (molecular dynamics), micro (mechanics of slip), meso and macro (finite element models) scales. I develop models to address key engineering issues such as manufacturing process optimization to achieve tailored material response and prediction of material performance in moderate to extreme environments using an integrated computational materials engineering (ICME) approach. Developing such approaches enables design of new materials for use in a wide variety of applications including energy, electronic, biomedical, automotive and aircraft structures.
